The Friends of West Point is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose purpose is to protect and enhance West Point Park on the Eno River in Durham, North Carolina. West Point Park is a 400 acre city park located on a two mile stretch of the Eno River between Roxboro Street and Guess Road, five miles north of downtown Durham.
The park provides opportunities for recreational activites along the Eno River such as picnicing, hiking, paddling, and fishing. The historic section of the park includes the 19th century McCown-Mangum house, the Hugh Mangum Museum of Photography and the West Point Village grist mill amd country store.
The objectives of the Friends of West Point are:
1 - To act as an advisory group to, and coordinate with the City of Durham to maintain and enhance West Point Park and its facilities in a manner consistent with neighborhood, regional, watershed, Durham Wildlife Inventory and planning goals.
3 - To promote educational, environmental, conservation and other programs consistant with the above mentioned goals.
3 - To facilitate the ability of groups and individuals to contribute to the maintenance and preservation of West Point Park through the donation of time, materials and money.
Our board meets at 7:00 PM at the Hugh Mangum Museum of Photography on the first Tuesday of each month. Visitors are welcome and new board members are often needed. Please call to confirm our schedule if you are interested in attending a meeting.
